Sea adventure: Tour the vintage vessels at the Hyde Street Pier

San Francisco Maritime Museum and Hyde Street Pier
Foot of Hyde Street at Jefferson
Call for hours and to arrange a ranger-led tour of the ships

The Hyde Street Pier offers four permanently docked ships that visitors can tour. Admission to visit the ships is free for children and teens age 15 and under, $5 for 16 and above, so younger youth groups can enter ree if adult and older teen chaperones pay the admission fee. For information and to arrange a ranger-led tour, please contact Mariah Gardner, 415/292-6664 or mailto:mgardner@martime.org. The Visitors' Center says two weeks' notice is usually required, so programs should call now to get in before school starts! Visitors can tour the Balclutha, an 1886 full-rigged ship; the Eureka, an 1890 San Francisco ferry; the C.A. Thayer, an 1895 lumber schooner; and the Hercules, a 1907 ocean tugboat – and admire the small craft and huge freighters plying the bay while soaking up the maritime atmosphere. Groups require a ratio of at least one adult per 10 children and youth.
Muni Metro F Market; Muni buses 19-Polk, 47-Van Ness, 49-Van Ness/Mission. (Unfortunately, the group Muni passes can't be used on the Powell/Hyde cable car that turns around close by the pier.)
