Work with teens? Youth Speaks for YOUR STUDENTS in July -- plan to be there

We're still pinning down details, but Youth Speaks offers some fantastic no-fee spoken word activities for high schoolers and some for middle schoolers in July -- both workshops and spectator opportunities. Get ready to save some dates!

This year, the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival is set for San Francisco the evening of Saturday, July 23, at the Opera House. Brave New Voices represents youth from all across the United States and Europe, making it the largest ongoing spoken word event in the world.

Events in connection with Brave New Voices offer enrichment and educational activities that stimulate the creativity and nurture the soul -- mostly free -- during the week of July 18-23.

The week of July 18 on a day to be announced, Youth Speaks will engage 500 high-school-age teens in  free writing workshops at 10 branch libraries around San Francisco.

On Thursday, July 21, young people are invited to a day of writing in San Francisco with Youth Speaks leaders from around the country.

Free spectator opportunities leading up to the Brave New Voices final event:

Quarter finals all day on Friday, July 22, at various locations in the Mission District.
Semifinals all day Saturday, July 23, at four locations.
Admission is free to spectators at the above events.

Tickets are $6 to the final event at the Opera House on Saturday, July 23.

Details to come! To be alerted to details as soon as they're announced, contact James Kass at Youth Speaks,

In another Youth Speaks event, a daytime poetry slam is set for Friday, June 17, focusing on gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer youth, at the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Transgender Bisexual Community Center, 1800 Market Street. Details to come.
