Paid summer 2011 youth programs and internships: Arts

Most programs on the list are for ages 14-17. Note that some of the application deadlines are coming soon.


Program: Summer 2011 paid internship opportunities
Application deadline: April 4
Description: Three areas: Architecture/public art; web design/digital filmmaking; teaching assistant to rising ninth-graders.
Sponsor: Out of Site Youth Arts Center
Who may apply: San Francisco public high school students ages 14-18
Dates: June 20-July 15, Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Other details: Teaching assistant must have experience in printmaking, percussion, photography or acting

Program: Spotlight on the Arts
Application deadline: April 15
Description: Provides deserving teens who are interested in the arts with paid summer internships, workshops on conflict resolution, college preparation and career development, behind-the-scenes tours of arts facilities, and field trips to live cultural events.
Sponsor: California Lawyers for the Arts
Who may apply: 14-17 years old, low-income family, San Francisco resident
Dates: Eight weeks, summer 2011

Program: Powerhouse Youth Arts Program
Application deadline: Not specified
Sponsor: Geneva Car Barn & Powerhouse
Description: A stipended arts program for San Francisco students aged 14-17. PYAP's goal is to cultivate youth development and career exposure through community-relevant arts projects, field trips and professional development.
Who may apply: Must be a San Francisco student 14-17 years old. SF District 11 youth, youth of color, working-class, immigrant and queer youth are encouraged to apply.
Dates: Summer session July 5-Aug. 5, Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (Fall session to be announced)
Other details: The program includes classes in Digital Media Arts, Culinary Arts, Fabrication/Design Arts, and Literary Arts.

Program: Powerhouse Community Arts Educator Internships
Application deadline: Not specified
Description: Paid internship positions for emerging youth leaders.
Sponsor: Geneva Car Barn & Powerhouse
Who may apply: High school sophomores, juniors or seniors
Dates: Not specified
Other details: Interns receive training in community-building, leadership, and critical thinking, and serve as peer educators and teaching assistants in Powerhouse Youth Arts Project classes.
